To kick off Islamabad's conference activities, on Friday, December 27, 2019, IMI hosted a special workshop on Gut to Heart health. The session featured Yawer Nensey, MD (Gastroenterologist at Florida Gastroenterology Associates). The moderator for the session was Syed Wajih Rizvi, MD and featured an in-depth discussion of the connection of diet and nutrition to heart and overall health.
Following the Gut-to-Heart workshop was an important session on cardio-metabolic health by Arshed Quyyumi, MD, FRCP, FACC (Professor of Cardiology at Emory University, USA), former IMI Global President from the United States.
Following the two scientific sessions in the morning, the group flight arrived in Islamabad and checked into their accommodations at the conference venue, the famous Serena Hotel in Islamabad.
As Islamabad serves as the political hub of the country, it remains the home of politics, nonprofit organizations, lobbyists and national and foreign actors. Noting the neccesity to engage all parts of this vibrant community, IMI hosted a special NGO Brainstorming Session by invitation only, to help coordination and efficiency amongst those working in Pakistan.
