A particular highlight of IMI’s Third Delegation to Iraq was the first Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (BLS/ACLS) training course in Iraq's national history. During this course, IMI delegates trained and certified 45 professionals from Najaf and the surrounding area at Al Sadr Hospital. A Karbala session was also held to train 50 - 60 candidates in BLS/ACLS. The training team was comprised of Dr. Imran Imam, Dr. Fatima Ali, Dr. Usama Al Kanani, Dr. Hasan Gokal, and Dr. Barkat Jaferi.
Additional courses have been arranged subsequently for a range of audiences. For example, IMI was instrumental in conducting a BLS course for police officers at Najaf Police Academy in cooperation with Al-Anwer Al-Najafia Foundation for Culture and Progress on Monday 8th August, 2011. Most recently, multiple BLS/ACLS training courses were held in January 2013 with a total of 104 senior level medical students from Kufa University and Karbala University Schools of Medicine. As always course attendees received American Heart Association Certification. Dr. Imran Imam, Dr. Azmat Husain and Dr. Rafid Umran conducted the training. Students received extensive training in running megacodes, airway management, and AED and Defibrillator training.
