IMI Board Of Regents

IMI’s Board of Regents is the highest organizational body concerned with overseeing all IMI activities globally to ensure adherence to the IMI Constitution. The Board of Regents is comprised of 5 or more members and each member holds a term of 3 years. The Coordinator for the Board of Regents is also known as the Global President.

Current Regents (2018)

Huma Naqvi, IMI Global President (2018-2020)

Dr. Huma Naqvi, MD is Assistant Professor, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director Geriatric Rehabilitation, Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Naqvi completed her MBBS at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre—Jinnah Sindh Medical University in Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Naqvi finished an internal medicine internship at St. Vincent Medical Center and her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Naqvi’s particular areas of clinical expertise include geriatric rehabilitation, elderly musculoskeletal issues, wound care and alternative and complementary medicine—especially acupuncture for pain management. Dr. Naqvi’s research focus is on global health initiatives in Iraq. Dr. Naqvi started a certification course for Iraqi physicians and therapists on rehabilitation techniques and interventions and spearheads IMI’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Project in Iraq.


Dr. Sibte Arif Naqvi, MBBS

Pakistan | Terms: 2014-2017; 2017-2020

Dr. Arif Naqvi graduated from Sindh Medical University, Karachi, in 1987. He did his MCPS in Anesthesiology in 1992. He is currently working as an anesthesiologist in Fatimiya Hospital. He is the architect and international coordinator of IMI's most iconic project the IMI Hajj Medical Mission that serves thousands of Hujjaj (Pilgrims) at Hajj annual for over a decade without any discrimination of cast, creed or color. Dr. Naqvi is also the Coordinator of IMI Pakistan whose selfless services for the organization, flood victims of Pakistan, Kashmir Earthquake, victims of violence specially Shia Muslim doctors and scores of other axis’s is the back bone of IMI in Pakistan. His day-to-day guidance and overseeing the affairs of IMI Pakistan and his enormous time contribution to the process is second to none in taking the caravan of IMI forward in all spheres.


Dean Mohammad Saeed Abdul Zahra

Iraq | Terms: 2014-2017; 2017-2020

Dr. Mohammad Saeed Abdul Zahra is the Dean of College of Medicine, University of Kufa. Dr. Abdul Zahra is the Consultant Physician to the Ministry of Health, Iraq and also serves as the Specialist Physician in the Al-Sadir Teaching Hospital. He received his BSc. degree in Medicine and General Surgery from Kufa College of Medicine and received his high diploma degree in Internal Medicine from Baghdad University. He is the member of the Iraqi Physicians assembly of the heart and the chest, and the member of the Middle Euphrates Physicians assembly of the heart and the chest. He is the supervisor of the High Diploma Internal Medicine students, and supervises numerous researches that are done in the Echo section. He is a member and Head of numerous committees and has received many honors and awards.

Dr. Syed Qasim Jaffry

Ireland | Terms: 2014-2017; 2017-2020

After graduating from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Dr. Jaffry proceeded to Ireland for higher studies. Currently he is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and Fellow of the European Board of Urology with a Masters in Urology from the National University of Ireland. Dr. Jaffry is a consultant Urologist at the University Hospital Galway in Ireland involved in entire spectrum Urological care. Dr. Jaffry was received the IMI Man of the Year Award in 2011. After joining the IMI’s first delegation to Iraq in 2009, Dr. Jaffry has been to Iraq multiple times to transfer technology and the latest advances in the field of Urological Sciences to his peers and the esteemed Institutions in Iraq. In addition to being IMI’s European Coordinator, Dr. Jaffry is the Coordinator of IMI’s Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission which recently completed its 5th year providing care for more than 20,000 in Karbala and Najaf.

Dr. Naushad Noorani, MD

Canada | Terms: 2014-2017; 2017-2020

Dr. Naushad Noorani is a graduated of Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Noorani did his residency and specialization in psychiatry from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He did his fellowship from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is currently practicing as a consultant psychiatrist at Brampton Civic Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

He is the driving force behind IMI Canada. His support and passion has strengthened IMI Canada to a new level.

Dr. Mustafa Husain

USA | Terms: 2018-2021

Dr. Husain is currently a Professor of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine, Head of ECT Service, Director of the Neuro Stimulation Research Lab and Chief of the Geriatric Psychiatry Division at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He is a graduate of Dow Medical College Karachi, Pakistan. He received his initial training in the United States at Stanford University, California. He completed his residency at USC and continued with research and geriatric fellowships at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina.

Dr. Husain has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in national and international scientific journals, authored several book chapters and currently serves as a reviewer for major professional journals. He is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of ECT and sits on the Grant Review Committee for Neuroscience, Conte Center and Biobehavioral Brain Research of the NIH. Dr. Husain is involved in training, education and research in general psychiatry, aging and geriatric issues, new applications of lead placement in ECT and novel treatments of Major Depressive Disorder including Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)

Dr. Ahsan Zafar Zaidi

UK | Terms: 2018-2021

Ahsan Zafar Zaidi is a consultant General Surgeon based in London. He was born in Lucknow where he studied at the famous Lamartinere College. He did his MBBS from JN Medical of Aligarh Muslim University, his LRCP and LRCS from Edinburgh and Glasgow before completing his FRCS (England). He comes from a well-known literary family of Lucknow. .

Dr. Mubarak Naqvi

India | Terms: 2018-2021

Dr. Mubarak Naqvi was appointed Senior Director – Medical & Regulatory Affairs, India & South Asia at Sanofi India in 2014. He joined the Company in 2010 as Director - Clinical Study Unit, where he was responsible for managing Sanofi’s clinical research programs in India. Within the area of Clinical Research, he has particularly excelled in Clinical Operations, over the past 13 years.

Before joining Sanofi, Dr. Naqvi worked at different positions, of increasing responsibility, in Odyssey Research Inc, a US based Clinical Research Organization (CRO). He managed their Oncology division and was also instrumental in establishing their Indian operations. After several interesting years in USA, he returned to New Delhi, where he worked for an Indian CRO – CliniRx Research Pvt. Ltd. - and grew the company into a successful international organization.

Dr. Naqvi is a physician with post graduate training in clinical biochemistry. He is passionate about clinical project management, and has handled projects across different therapeutic areas like Oncology, Diabetes, Cardiology, Thrombosis, Women’s Health and CNS.

Dr. Adnan al Kenani Ali

New Zealand | Terms: 2018-2021

Dr Adnan Ali, MB ChB, MRNZCGP FICMS, worked as a Plastic Surgery Specialist Medical Officer at Middlemore Hospital following few years of holding a Plastic Surgery Registrar post there. He currently operates on referrals of skin lesions from North Shore, Waitakere and Middlemore Hospitals as well as GP referrals to The Doctors, New Lynn and Manukau City A&M. Adnan worked in both General Practice and Plastic Surgery in Iraq before coming to New Zealand. He has completed the RNZCGP Seminar Programme, and is fluent in both Arabic and English. He is a father of four and as a keen artist, has participated in art exhibitions in NZ, and also had an exhibition at the Iraqi Museum for Modern art..

Past Regents (2017)

Shabih Zaidi, IMI Global President 2016-2018

Dr. Shabih Haider Zaidi completed his MBBS from Dow Medical College (DMC) in 1966. Following this he proceeded to UK for FRCS. He returned to Pakistan in 1972, and started teaching at his alma mater and rose to be the Professor and head of the department of ENT. He was also Principal of Sindh Medical College, Head of Medical Education, at DMC, Sindh Medical College and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center until 2001. Over the years, he was awarded Fellowships from of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), International College of Surgeons (FICS), and the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (FCPS). Dr. Zaidi founded the Department of Medical Education at DMC.

Dr. Zaidi has written several books and monographs, and published over a hundred scientific papers. He has also worked as an advisor and a consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), and was a visiting Professor to the University Sains, Kelantan, Malaysia. Dr. Zaidi relocated to England in 2001 where he joined the University of Liverpool Teaching Hospital as an ENT Consultant. In 2004 he joined one of the University of Birmingham teaching NHS hospitals.

Dr. Syed Saeed Parvaiz Bokhari

USA | Terms: 2012-2015, 2015-2018

Dr. Bokhari is a gastroenterologist who practices in Illinois and is affiliated with three area hospitals: Provena St.Mary’s Hospital, Riverside Medical Center, and, Iroquois Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bokhari completed his post-graduate internships at Mayo Hospital (Pakistan) and the L.A. Weiss Memorial Hospital (Chicago, Illinois) as well as fellowships in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the L.A. Weiss Memorial Hospital (Chicago, Illinois), and the University of Illinois Hospital and West Side Veterans Administration Hospital (Chicago, Illinois). He received his MBBS from King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan in 1974.
Dr. Bokhari has rendered invaluable services as a part of the IMI Iraq delegation by performing training, workshops, and endoscopic procedures, etc. He received IMI’s highest award for outstanding donation of Medical Equipment for our projects around the world over the last 10 yrs. Though a long-time Chiago resident, Dr. Bokhari now lives with his family in Arizona.

Dr. Asad Rizvi

USA | Terms: 2012-2015; 2015-2018

Dr. Asad Rizvi is an Anesthesiologist at the Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Maryland. A Board Certified Anestheosiologist, Dr. Rizvi has over 24 years of experience. He graduated from Rawalpindi Medical College and currently resides in Longmeadow, MA.
