IMI Headquarters

IMI Headquarters (IMI HQ) is the central organizational office that coordinates and provides supervision for organizational activities. It is comprised of a core group of individuals who are drawn from IMI’s founders, IMI HQ Country Coordinators, previous Boards, Past Presidents, members, volunteers and staff. Current staff at IMI HQ includes an International Projects, Diplomacy and Advocacy Officer, Finance & IT Officer, Office Administrator, Data Manager, and consultants.

Sakina Rizvi, Chief Program Officer

Sakina Rizvi leverages her unique combination of legal, health, and programming expertise to effect positive change in the world in the form of disaster relief efforts, advocacy, and transformative educational and professional development programming.

Sakina holds multiple leadership positions with Imamia Medics International (IMI) and is critical to executing their core functions of providing professional development for health professionals, health services for underserved communities, and organizing advocacy and disaster/crisis relief. As Chief Program Officer for Imamia Medics International (IMI), she plans and executes the organization’s programming, including international and domestic conferences. She also manages multiple departments/programs at IMI HQ overseeing volunteers and staff. In addition, Sakina devises and implements advocacy efforts to provide human rights protections for health professionals, presenting reports and recommendations at Congressional briefings, and, as IMI’s Representative to the United Nations (UN), to UN officials and policymakers from around the world. She has served and coordinated a number of international disaster relief and health missions, including in Iraq and Haiti.

Sakina is also committed to effecting change by working on interfaith engagement, coalition-building and advocacy training within the Shia Muslim American community, and empowering Muslim women to lead and succeed.

Sakina graduated from Washington College of Law, American University and currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Public International Law & Policy Group. Prior to her legal education, she also served as the U.S. Director for the American Institute of Pakistan Studies and a Program Officer with AMIDEAST.

Masud Rizvi, Finance Associate

Masud Rizvi has been working with IMI on a part-time bassis since November 2016, maintaining full-time employment with Quest Laboratories as a Financial Analyst. Prior to this, he was a Financial Analyst with Rutgers University for 8 years. Masud received his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management, Management, Accountancy, and Cost Accounting from the University of Gorakhpur.

Afshan Ahsan, Outreach Officer

Afshan Ahsan has been working part-time with IMI since February 2017. In her original portfolio as an Events Consultant, Afshan brought her expertise in planning, and delivering services to clients, strong communication and human resource skills to our organization.

With her expertise in Executive Guest Relations and as the owner and president of a thriving event management business that caters to the needs of the South Asian and other local communities in the greater tri state area, the role of IMI’s Outreach Associate was a perfect match.

In addition to professional experiences as a Program Coordinator at University Of Pennsylvania and Office Administrator at Neurological Regional Associates, Afshan has also been teaching at the Bait ul Qaim Saturday school for the last eight years and has organized numerous events there.

She grew up in an armed forces family in India and moved around various parts of the country and abroad giving her a unique exposure to many different cultures, practices and perspectives.

In addition to her expertise in Guest Relations, Afshan holds a degree in bachelors in Science from Delhi University, India. She moved to US in 1997 and currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and two children.

Romeena Kureishy, Administrative Coordinator

Romeena joined IMI as part-time Administrative Coordinator in May 2017. She brings years of experience in grant writing, community outreach, capacity building, conducting training workshops and organizing various cultural events.

Apart from IMI, Romeena works as an Urdu educator and teacher trainer for the NYU STARTALK Teacher Training Program She conducts training workshops for community teachers of Urdu language and develops curriculum and online materials for Urdu instruction. She also teaches Urdu to heritage and non – heritage students at various summer programs in the region. She also works as an Independent Urdu Specialist for the American Councils for International Education where she works as a foreign language reviewer and item selector for Urdu proficiency tests. Prior to this, she worked with University of Pennsylvania STARTALK Urdu program for six years as instructor and later on as Program Director. She is the founding member and vice president of Saaz, Inc, a non-profit organization promoting South Asian art and culture in the Tri-State area. She also served on the board of Pakistani-American Society of South Jersey for two years. Romeena also enjoyed a successful career as a real estate professional from 2005 – 2010.

Romeena graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Karachi University and is currently enrolled in the Masters Urdu program at Karachi University, Pakistan.

She has lived in the US since 1991, and in NJ since 1994. Her family includes her husband and daughter.

Muzammil Abbas (IT Officer)

Agha Muzammil Abbas is the Director of IMI’s Information Technology Department. He supervises the technical aspects of the organization. Muzammil Abbas has been instrumental in the prior conferences held at local as well as international venues. His contributions to the organization are innumerable and he is a vital role player for IMI.

Dr. Syed Wajih Rizvi, IMI Headquarters Supervisor, IMI Co-Founder

Dr. Rizvi graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. He did his internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and then completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Lipid Disorders from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

For 8 years he headed the Endocrine Division of the Dakota Clinic and Innovis Health Systems in Fargo, ND, and was Associate Professor of Clinical Endocrinology at the University of North Dakota. Currently he is an Associate Professor, Clinical Endocrinology, at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Chief of R-Endocrinology and R-Research, in Hamilton, NJ.

Dr. Rizvi is one of the founding members of Imamia Medics International and oversees the IMI Headquarters. He has an avid interest in philosophy, Urdu poetry, traveling and wild life. He lives with his family in New Jersey.

Sabaa Fayazi, Intern June-August 2017

Sabaa Fayazi is a high-school senior who is determined to give back. She joined as an intern in July, 2017 to assist in administrative duties for the organization. She has been volunteering for 3-years at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she is involved in assisting the nurses with patient care. Planning a future in healthcare, Sabaa Fayazi offers dedication and perseverance to Imamia Medics International.
