Imamia Medics International stands with our Hazara brothers and sisters in the wake of targeted killings in Pakistan of 11 coal miners from Balochistan's Mach area. We offer our condolences and vehemently condemn this terrorism. IMI remains ever-committed to providing our services to victims and survivors of anti-Shia violence in Pakistan.
Over the past two weeks, IMI has worked on various fronts, providing emergency assistance, meeting and working with the Hazara communities to assess their immediate and longterm needs. IMI is working with the community and its extensive network in the Hazara diaspora to provide immediate financial assistance, develop critical healthcare infrastructure with two local hospitals, and develop a vocational center for women.
IMI's UN Desk has released a Statement of Condemnation and is working to contact appropriate entities including officials in Pakistan's federal and provincial governments, the Pakistani Ambassador to the United States, the Secretary General of the United Nations, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. This division is also reaching out to human rights organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to urge them to investigate increasing sectarian violence in Pakistan, and ensure the prosecution of the perpetrators of these crimes so that every person, including the affected Shia Muslim Hazara community in Pakistan, may enjoy the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and enjoy the freedom from fear and the freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
