Essential Foundations of Simulation: A Guide to Standards and Resources in Healthcare Education

About the Webinar:

This international session is about Essential Foundations of Simulation: A Guide to Standards and Resources in Healthcare Education, by globally recognized Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz (MD, FCPS, MCPS, DCH, CHSE, MHPE, Ph.D. (Simulation)).

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand key foundational concepts and terminology in healthcare simulation including fidelity, simulation modalities, and the role of simulation in clinical education and patient safety.
  • Learn the core components of internationally recognized simulation standards (e.g., INACSL Standards of Best Practice, SSH Accreditation Domains), and explain their relevance in designing, delivering, and evaluating simulation activities.
  • Explore reputable global and local resources available to simulation educators and teams including toolkits, training programs, professional networks, and online platforms that support evidence-based simulation practice.

About Our Speaker:

Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz MD, FCPS, MCPS, DCH, CHSE, MHPE, Ph.D. (Simulation)

Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and the Medical Director of SimKIDS at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada. She is a practicing Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician with over 15 years of clinical and academic experience and is widely recognized for her leadership in healthcare simulation, faculty development, and global health education.

Her academic focus lies in designing and implementing simulation-based training for healthcare providers across the continuum of education—from undergraduate learners to senior postgraduate trainees and interprofessional teams. She has led and collaborated on multiple simulation-based research projects focusing on resuscitation, team dynamics, system testing, and quality improvement. She is also a strong advocate for culturally sensitive, emotionally safe learning environments and has contributed to shaping simulation strategies in both high-resource and low-resource settings.

Dr. Fayyaz serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Healthcare Simulation (JoHS) and the Panorama of Emergency Medicine (PoEM). She is also the Co-Lead of the Cureus Simulation Channel of the International Pediatric Simulation Society (IPSS), where she works to promote accessible, peer-reviewed knowledge dissemination in pediatric simulation. She holds active leadership roles within international organizations such as IPSS and the International Network for Simulation-based Pediatric Innovation, Research and Education (INSPIRE).

She has contributed significantly to global simulation capacity-building efforts in South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa and has mentored faculty in simulation curriculum development, distance simulation, and debriefing practices.

As an educator and speaker, Dr. Fayyaz has been invited to present her work on simulation and medical education at leading academic institutions and conferences worldwide. Her approach combines innovation with a deep commitment to equity, learner-centeredness, and system-wide impact.

  • If InshAllah, I secure a residency in the upcoming match, I will owe the organizers and the speakers at the seminar more than they will take credit for.

  • IMI has been my outlet for philanthropic work since before I entered into high school. It is through IMI that I see my efforts, here in New Jersey, manifest into something much greater around the world. IMI has helped me realize that ambition alone is not enough to change the world; in order to achieve the changes we wish to see in this world we require ambition, vision, and most importantly execution. That is why I have joined IMI, so that my ambition and vision can meet their execution.

  • We just wanted to drop you a few lines to say that, myself and Mohammed, had a wonderful time in Orlando. The Hotel was excellent, the flow of the meetings, seminars and speakers was terrific (even for a layman like myself), and the warmth and hospitality of all was moving. Networking opportunities for young and the veterans were available at all times. All the presenters and the speakers were great. The special speakers, the Governor from Georgia and Mehdi Hassan were outstanding, and the dining arrangements were excellent. I have to get the chefs name...to all the people who were involved...thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication
