IMI's 16th Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission

Plans for IMI's 16th Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission include a medical camp in Karbala, in-person training through the 6th Annual Arbaeen Conference, public health information for zawaar, and the continued provision of free medications/medical supplies and equipment.

Applications for international members for this year's Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission team are now closed. Team members living in Iraq can apply here.

You can be a part of serving the 27 million Zawar anticipated this Arbaeen by donating for medications and supplies. Your financial support is needed now. Click here to donate.

Costs

As in all previous years, certain costs for IMI’s Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission delegates are being covered by IMI donors and collaborators. Costs are also higher than in previous years. Therefore, please anticipate your costs to include:

  • International Air travel costs (Air tickets and any hotels/additional stops on your way into/out of Iraq)
  • $450-1450 Subsidized AAMM16 Package costs (see details by package type below)
  • $100 USD for visa costs
  • Insurance
  • $250-300 in suggested donations for medications to be purchased for use at the camp.

Subsidized AAMM16 Packages

AAMM 16 Packages include certain program costs and ground packages with airport to airport arrangements (based on group plans) and 15 days/14 nights of accommodations in Iraq. Because our medical delegation needs are very different from traditional ziyarat kafla needs--our delegates simply need a small space to lay their heads and are focused primarily on serving the zawaar—we arrange simple accommodations.

Our Standard AAMM16 Package is $1450 USD and will include discounted local transport on the group itinerary, meals and 14 nights (15 days) of accommodations at basic, simple hotels that are clean and functional. The hotels will be short 5-10 minute walks from the Haram and the tentative camp location.

To further help manage expenses, particularly for those from dollar conversion inflation economies (eg. Pakistan), IMI also has limited AAMM16 budget packages ($450) that will include shared apartments instead of hotel accommodations in Karbala. These apartments are humble accommodations located approximately 15-20 minutes walk from the camp. The bedrooms would have multiple individuals (6-10) per room with simple mattresses to sleep on.

In addition, for our team members from Pakistan, IMI Pakistan has worked with agents to secure good fares for group tickets for Arbaeen team members from Pakistan. At present the overall USD costing estimates for team members from Pakistan are:

  • RT Air ticket from Karachi: $590 (cost-to-cost)
  • Visa fee $110 (cost-to-cost)
  • Subsidized ground package: $450 (approx. $30/day for 15 days with discounted local transport & stay in Najaf & shared apartments in Karbala)
  • Total estimated for 15 days with airfare, visa, and discounted ground package: $1150 USD

Application Process: Closed

The application process will be broken into the following stages:

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This delegation's primary purpose is to provide medical services during Arbaeen. The situation in Iraq is constantly shifting and volatile. You must be flexible with regards to planning and logistics including accommodations, transportation, electricity and other local needs/arrangements. Things constantly change on the ground and our baseline requirement is for all delegates to be patient, flexible and work together despite very intense and challenging conditions. All delegates must also strictly abide by IMI regulations including safety and infection prevention guidelines.

If you can't join us in person, you can still be a part of serving the zawaar of our Imam by donating here to help fund medications and other critical needs for this year's Arbaeen.

Testimonials
  • It was an excellent conference well planned, presented, and well attended.  If individually traveling we may have never enjoyed the kind of reception the participants received throughout their stay in Iran.

    Shaukat Syed
  • I want to thank you all for giving me such a great opportunity to be a part of your team (in Haiti). It was a unique experience and I really enjoyed working with you all.

    Mitra Arjang
  • Thank you very much for the wonderful work you do. I have seen it first hand in Karbala during the Arbaeen camps and my son was fortunate to participate in two of the missions. I have made a donation today.

    Abbas Abidi
  • If InshAllah, I secure a residency in the upcoming match, I will owe the organizers and the speakers at the seminar more than they will take credit for.

    Annie Agha
  • IMI has been my outlet for philanthropic work since before I entered into high school. It is through IMI that I see my efforts, here in New Jersey, manifest into something much greater around the world. IMI has helped me realize that ambition alone is not enough to change the world; in order to achieve the changes we wish to see in this world we require ambition, vision, and most importantly execution. That is why I have joined IMI, so that my ambition and vision can meet their execution.
