Passing on the baton, IMI UK has elected Dr. Wajih Ali Khawaja as its 7th President. In his newly formed cabinet, Dr. Khawaja has prioritized diversity, ensuring representation from geographical regions of all over the UK, a range of professions and also gender (with 50% female members). Dr. Khawaja's election marks a new chapter for IMI UK, and the organization is poised to benefit from his leadership.

Dr. Wajih Ali Khawaja has been an IMI member for 17 years and has humbly served at the IMI Arbaeen camp along with colleagues from all over the world for the last 7 years. He is involved with multiple international charitable organisations and projects.
Dr. Khwaja graduated from Fatima Jinnah Dental College in Karachi in 2002 and gained his post graduate degrees from London & Portugal. He works full time as an NHS & Private Dentist in a busy Dental Practice in Central London.
Dr. Wajih Khawaja is excited to Lead IMI to new horizons.
Dr. Mujtaba Kazmi is a graduate of Medical University of Lublin. In the US, he was in the medical field of Clinical Research and development in the pharmaceutical industry. Upon moving to the UK, he will be starting work as an SHO, and afterwards he will start his training in interventional radiology.
Mujtaba has worked with IMI US since 2010 on various projects, including the latest groundbreaking Dream project in New Jersey. He is also the Vice President of Aziz Imdad Memorial trust which is currently working in conjunction with IMI in constructing and providing free health care with the Al Zahra Medical Complex.
Dr. Syeda Sabika Zaidi born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. She graduated from JMDC in 2009 before moving to the UK to further her medical career. However, she had to take a break from medical practice due to family commitments. In 2015, she returned to the field and started with a LAS position in colorectal surgery. After gaining experience in both breast and colorectal surgery, she discovered her true passion in general practice.
Currently, she’s working as a GPST3 and is thoroughly enjoying the new challenges that it presents her with every day.
Giving back to the community has always been important to her, and she feels that working in general practice provides her with the perfect platform to do so.
Dr. Ashba Jafri is a dedicated General Practitioner based in West Essex. With a strong foundation in clinical practice coupled with a passion for education, Dr. Jafri's journey embodies a profound dedication to both patient care and professional development.
In 2023, Dr. Jafri achieved a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, marking a pivotal milestone in her career. Currently, she is working her way towards achieving a master’s in medical education, further enriching her understanding and skills in this domain.
Dr. Jafri's primary focus lies in developing educational and training support frameworks tailored to meet the needs of international medical graduates. Recognising the unique challenges they may encounter; she is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that facilitates their seamless integration into the healthcare system.
As the Education Lead for the Essex faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), Dr. Jafri plays a pivotal role in shaping educational initiatives and fostering professional growth within the region. Her leadership extends beyond local boundaries, as she actively collaborates in arranging comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events on a nationwide scale.
Dr Hadi has been as IMI member for last 28 years and has had the privilege to have worked as the director of IMI Pakistan chapter. He has engaged with different camps, IMI Hajj mission, Earthquake 2005, Flood Relief mission 2009, 2011.
In the UK, he has been working as IMI director for the last five years. He graduated from Sindh Medical College (SMC) Karachi in 2000 and moved to the UK in 2011. He achieved post-graduation in London. Now he is a full-time clinical microbiologist in an NHS university hospital.
His role is not just about managing finances; it is about upholding the trust and confidence of all those who believe in the IMI’s mission and reply on its impact.
Dr Shabbir Tejani is an established GP Partner in the Leicestershire area who has an enhanced role in minor surgery. He has a keen interest in Digital Medicine and innovation. Being a Shia reciter who is known worldwide, he has an extensive network both professionally and within our community. We know that he will be an asset to IMI.
Dr Mudussar Ahmad is Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon based in London and specialises in hip & knee surgery. He graduated from University College London.
He is a past president of IMI-UK and has been an active member of the committee since 2015, including serving at the Arbaeen medical mission on multiple occasions.
Dr Mudussar is very much looking forward to helping further develop and achieve the goals of IMI especially contributing to the University Medical Complex project in Karachi.
Dr. Ishaq Raza is currently working as a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine at Royal Blackburn Hospital. His qualifications include M.B.B.S. He is also ALS and ATLS certified.
On Background he has working experience of organisational management in ISO at divisional level in Pakistan. He has also been part of IMI for the last 1 year.
Dr. Naqi has made significant contributions to the Manchester community over the past decade through his leadership and organization of various events. A graduate of the University of Manchester in 2018 and having trained at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, he currently serves as a practicing GP and a hospital doctor.
Dr. Naqi is thrilled to embrace his new position at IMI, where he looks forward to planning and coordinating events for IMI UK with great anticipation.
Dr Zahra Abbas boasts a diverse employment history, including her current role as an Administrator at Sahara Community Care Services in Peterborough. Her experience spans various positions such as a General Dentist at Al Noor Medical Centre in Karachi, and a part-time Phlebotomist at Hussani Blood Bank in Karachi during her medical studies.
Zahra's academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery from Dow University of Health Sciences. She is proficient in English, having achieved a score of 7.5 in IELTS Academics.
Her skill set is comprehensive, encompassing patient counselling, strong writing and verbal abilities, exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, dexterity, organisational prowess, patience, problem-solving capabilities, superb interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure, and research and publication experience. Zahra has also organized medical and dental camps while working as a volunteer in IMI Pakistan and provides comprehensive general dental care. She is recognized for her teamwork and leadership skills.
Voluntary service is a significant aspect of Zahra's career. She was honoured as the best Volunteer of 2018 in the Dental wing of Medics International for organizing dental educational activities since 2016. She played an active role in arranging the Medics International Conference in December 2019 and the IADR conference at DUHS in October 2019. She led the Dental Team at Tharparkar organized by Hands for Help and volunteered at Pakistan Dental Council camp at the Expo organized by HOPES. Her commitment to promoting dental health extends to active participation in dental outreach programs in various schools.
Syeda Yusrah Rizvi is IMI’s newest member. As a Reporting Analyst for the British Standards Institution, she is looking to use her skills and knowledge to help IMI to further succeed in all ventures. She has invaluable experience in the Medical Technology and Artificial Intelligence sectors, providing rigorous reporting on regulatory and quality management for medical devices manufacturers around the world. She works alongside BSI’s key stakeholders who strive to set the global standards in thorough, responsive, predictable conformity assessments, evaluations, and certifications.
Syeda Yusrah Rizvi is working towards a Data Science Professional Certificate with IBM as she has a keen interest in ‘The World of Data’. She is very humble and fortunate to be able to be part of Imamia Medics International.
Fizza Kadiwal is a law graduate with LLB(Hons) degree from the University of London. She spent a year teaching Business Law and HR Management to international students and holds post-graduate diplomas in Legal Practice (BPP University) and Notarial Practice (UCL) and is currently practising full time as a Notary Public in London.
She decided to follow in her father’s footsteps (Dr Gulam Hadi Kadiwal, a life member and stalwart of IMI UK since its foundation in 1990s) and joined Imamia Medics International in 2015, first as a volunteer, then as legal advisor and Programme Manager for IMI UK until 2018. She has been involved in supporting the charity registration process for IMI UK and its various other activities since joining. She believes that this unique organisation has the potential to change lives through its dedicated team of medical professionals and considers it a great honour and privilege to be a part of this great team.
I found the answers to all my questions about the process, its workings and methods at the IMI Career Guidance Seminar. I learnt more in the few hours I spent there than I did in months, yes months, of thorough research online and through the measly networking I was capable of as a foreign graduate.
